Stable Fly

Stable fly and the requirements of the management plan.

The Shire would like to remind landowners that stable fly is now a declared pest under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act) and subject to a management plan.

Stable fly can attack humans, domestic pets and livestock, seeking to draw blood which is essential to complete its life cycle. Stable flies typically occur in large numbers from late spring through to late autumn.

Under the BAM Act landholders are responsible to ensure adequate control measures are in place to prevent fly breeding on their land.

Please refer to the Stable Fly Management FAQ's for management practices.

For more information and to report fly breeding or excessive numbers, please refer to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development website.
