Abandoned and Off-Road Vehicles

Abandoned/impounded vehicles

Where the Shire considers a vehicle is unlawfully parked, abandoned, unregistered or disused in a public place, on a carriageway or in a road reserve the Shire may impound that vehicle. Infringements will then be issued and costs for towing of the vehicle.

Warning by way of stickers on the abandoned/illegally parked vehicle will be placed on the vehicle in question, if the vehicle in question is not removed within 24 hours the vehicle will be towed and impounded.

Infringements maybe issued and the owner of the vehicle will be liable for the cost of the towing of the vehicle.

Off road vehicles

The use of all off road vehicles and two wheeled motorcycles, whether licensed or not, is prohibited on any beach or reserve within the Shire of Harvey.

These vehicles are for private property use or in approved off-road vehicle locations only.

Vehicle access on beaches

The use of all off road vehicles and two wheeled motorcycles, whether licensed or not, is prohibited on any beach reserves within the Shire of Harvey.

Important note: Vehicles are not permitted in the designated swimming beach areas or sand dunes.

In accordance with Section 2.1 and 2.2 of the Shire of Harvey’s Local Government Property Local Law 2008, relating to Beach Reserves, the following applies:

All vehicles being driven on all designated 4-wheel drive beach areas within the Shire of Harvey shall:

  • Be licensed under the Road Traffic Act 1974
  • Only be driven by the holder of a current valid driver’s licence or permit as issued under the Road Traffic Act 1974
  • Observe 40kph speed limit
  • Stay clear of other beach users
  • Stay out of sand dunes and restoration areas.
