Harvey Golf Club has been declared parfect for expansion at a pre-start site inspection yesterday, 24 February 2025.
The inspection, which included Shire leadership, community partner Alcoa, construction company Civilcon and Harvey Golf Club Committee members, was the final step before work begins next month.
Harvey Golf Club President Michael Lowe said the expansion project was a hole-in-one for local golfers, community members and visitors who enjoy the Club’s facilities.
“We are extending the building to create much needed additional seating, including a beautiful alfresco area that overlooks the greens,” Mr Lowe said.
“We’re a Club with growing membership and visitation, so this project is crucial to meeting the needs of the golf community and helping the sport thrive well into the future.”
The Harvey Golf Club expansion project is one of several priorities outlined in the Shire’s multi-year, community-led plan to boost the local sport and recreation landscape.
The Shire has backed this project with $263,000 in funding and a $215,000 self-supporting loan to the Club, which is also contributing $150,000. Meanwhile, Alcoa has provided $140,000 in support.
Shire President Michelle Campbell said the community could expect a fresh and modern design, underpinned by improvements to site accessibility and safety.
“With support from Alcoa, we are going to deliver a terrific all-weather recreation space that will enhance the leisure opportunities offered in the Harvey Region,” the Shire President said.
“This fits right into our Sport and Recreation Plan, endorsed just last year, which lights the way to new and improved infrastructure, facility management, club development and activity programming.”
Alcoa Community Relations Manager Tom Busher said the Alcoa team was thrilled to team up with the Shire of Harvey and the Harvey Golf Club on this project.
“We routinely work with the Shire to ensure capacity-building projects like this get off the ground and beloved institutions like the Harvey Golf Club can grow with the times,” Mr Busher said.
“I’m certainly excited to visit for a round of golf and a meal after we cut the ribbon on this project!”
