Read a summary of the 30 January Ordinary Council Meeting

The first Ordinary Council Meeting for 2024 was held on Tuesday, 30 January.

Below is a quick summary of what Council decided.

RVs at the HRCC

The unused backetball courts by the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre will be the next short-stay site for RV travellers holidaying in Harvey.

Council decided the courts would be the most suitable spot after a thorough review of potential sites.

The Shire of Harvey is currently trialling short-stay parking bays for RV travellers. This trial ends in April.

Joining the rEVolution

The Shire will transition 30 per cent of it's light vehicle fleet into electric cars by 2030.

Council endorsed this plan to further progress the Shire's existing Climate Change Declaration and Corporate Mitigation Action Plan, which is the Shire's blueprint to safeguarding against the impacts of climate change.

The transition will also see an approximate saving of approximately $3,000 per financial year, dependant on vehicle trade in future.

Notice of Motion - outcome

Freeman of the Shire has been retained as the official title for community members that have strongly served the community.

Council considered reverting the title to the original name Honorary Advocate of the Shire but ultimately decided against making the change.

On 24 November 2017, John Sabourne OAM JP was announced as the Shire of Harvey’s first Freeman. He passed away in November, 2023.
