Plastic Ban 1 July 2022

Plastic Ban 1 July 2022
23 May 2022

Some plastic items will be banned in WA from 1 July 2022.

To reduce plastic pollution, the Western Australian Government is implementing a state-wide ban on the supply of certain plastic items, enforceable from 1 July 2022.

The National Retail Association has been engaged by the WA Government to help businesses to prepare for, transition, and manage the ban.

The following items will be banned from 1 July 2022:

  • All plastic shopping bags with handles.
  • Disposable plastic utensils - straws, stirrers and cutlery.
  • Disposable plastic foodware without lids - plates, bowls and food containers.
  • Expanded polystyrene food containers and trays.
  • Balloon releases.

Need help understanding the ban and how it applies to your product range? The National Retail Association is holding free online information sessions in May, June and July.

Guide to Businesses is available to assist businesses to understand and inform their staff and customers about the ban.
