Last week the Shire welcomed its first Youth Trainee, Leilani. Leilani is a year 12 graduate from Australind Senior High School and is excited to spend this year working with our award winning Community Development team.
As a Youth Trainee, Leilani will get to work with the Shire’s new Youth Collective on projects, programs and events for young people across the Shire.
The Youth Trainee opportunity is one of the five priority projects highlighted in the Shire’s first Youth Strategy – Voices of Youth, which was adopted by Council last year.
Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said youth between the ages of 10 and 18 years represent the largest population base in our Shire.
“Through adopting the Youth Strategy, Council has committed to partnering with young people to ensure we meet their current and future needs,” Cr Gillett said.
“The young people of our Shire are the future, they are at critical points in their lives and it is our responsibility to create opportunities for young people to actively contribute to our community.”
