Leschenault Leisure Centre Redevelopment Commences
25 Feb 2022

The $15 million redevelopment to the LLC is now under way thanks to the McGowan Government delivering on its election commitment.

The start of the redevelopment of LLC was officially announced on Thursday, 24 February 2022 by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman and Member for Murray-Wellington Robyn Clarke.

Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said this project was a key priority to ensure that we provide sporting facilities that meet the needs of our growing population.

"Upgrades to the Leschenault Leisure Centre are critical as we are already at capacity and we need to ensure we are meeting the current and future needs for the region.

Cr Gillett said upgrades to the facility will triple the seating capacity and include up to four additional courts.

“Key features of the project include appropriate changing facilities, wheelchair and pram access to all courts and storage amenities for wheelchairs and other sports equipment,” Cr Gillett said.

The project will be jointly funded by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries ($3 million) and the Shire of Harvey ($6 million). The Shire is seeking additional funding support from Federal Government, and other partnership opportunities continue to be investigated.

The planning and detailed design stage is expected to be completed by May 2022.

Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman said keeping local and regional communities healthy, strong and connected is a key priority for the McGowan Government.

"This investment will benefit the Harvey community and the greater South-West region, by allowing the centre to expand its sports programs and attract country and regional competitions.

"This is an exciting project that focuses on the principles of universal design to provide a sporting and recreation space that is welcoming and all-inclusive,” Mr Templeman said.
