Yarloop Workshops project update
13 Dec 2022

Shire of Harvey Council agreed to move ahead with Stage 1 of the Yarloop Workshops Redevelopment at a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, 13 December 2022.

Shire of Harvey Council agreed to move ahead with Stage 1 of the Yarloop Workshops Redevelopment at a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, 13 December 2022.

The contract for the development is currently with FIRM Construction Pty Ltd, but the company has recently entered voluntary administration.

Shire of Harvey Council President Paul Gillett said it was clear the Yarloop Project was important to the community, so Council decided to move quickly to progress the work.

“Council is working hard to get the Yarloop Workshops Redevelopment completed, and the Shire is working within the process to achieve a positive outcome for Stage 1 of the Project,” Cr Gillett said.

“We will provide updates along the way as further information comes to hand.”

The following motion was passed at the 13 December 2022 Special Council Meeting:

That Council, in relation to the Yarloop Workshops Project Stage 1:

  1. To authorise the Chief Executive Officer, following the obtaining of what is deemed to be sufficient information, and acting with appropriate external professional advice, to take the required steps to take any appropriate components of work out of the hands of the Contractor, and to engage existing sub-contractors or other parties directly to undertake that work.

  2. To the extent that the Chief Executive Officer exercises this authorisation, the Chief Executive Officer is exceptionally authorised to depart from the requirements of the Shire’s Purchasing Policy, Policy 2.2.11, clause 6.1.3 for expenditure thresholds under $250,000, where, by documented assessment, it is considered that the public interest in the momentum of the Project outweighs the desirability of multiple competitive quotes.
