Advocacy Priorities

Advocating for Our Community’s Future!

The Shire of Harvey is dedicated to advocating for our community at all levels of government, addressing opportunities and driving meaningful change that benefits both our residents and the broader state. With a projected population growth rate of 3.24% per annum, as highlighted in the State Government Planning Framework, our region is entering an exciting phase of development. This growth generates increasing demand for facilities, heightens competition for services, and raises expectations for managing our environment and open spaces.

As we navigate these changes, we recognise the importance of collaboration. The Shire relies on partnerships with various levels of government to achieve key objectives, while also serving as a crucial partner to help others meet their goals. Our commitment is to be a strong voice for the community, tirelessly advocating for positive change and new opportunities.

We believe our community deserves vibrant spaces, excellent facilities, and a thriving local economy. As we set our advocacy priorities, we aim to create a future where the Harvey Region not only offers desirable places to live but also fosters local employment and supports our businesses.

Join us in our mission to cultivate a dynamic and sustainable future for the Shire of Harvey. Together, we can realize our aspirations and build a community we are all proud to be a part of.

Leschenault Recreation Park Ovals 7 & 8

Current participation statistics for community and recreational sport in the Shire of Harvey have trebled since 2019. Community need is driving the Shire to consider this project earlier than anticipated as a result of a high number of local clubs, teams and players being displaced due to a lack of oval space.

The Leschenault Recreation Park Master Plan (2019) supports the development of two new playing fields, a sports pavilion and associated community amenity at the Leschenault Recreation Park.
The plan intends to incorporate the following:

  • Two additional playing fields
  • Oval LED lighting and waterwise reticulation system installation
  • Fencing and lighting as required
  • Smart sport artificial intelligence technology network
  • Shade and seating structures
  • Car parking and supporting path network
  • Signage and wayfinding.

The Shire of Harvey seeks $4m in financial assistance to deliver two new playing fields and has committed $4.25m for the additional infrastructure.

Munda Biddi Harvey Spur Trail Construction

This project proposes the development of a spur trail off the Munda Biddi Trail at Lake Brockman to Harvey Dam to link back to the Munda Biddi trail’s Yarri Hut in Mornington.

This spur trail provides an opportunity for a loop ride of approximately 80km, making use of the existing Munda Biddi Trail. With connectivity to Harvey town and the passenger train from Perth, this trail experience would appeal to the independent cyclists looking for a short multi-day off road cycling adventure.

The Shire of Harvey seeks $2.4m in financial assistance to deliver the spur trail to Harvey.

Harvey Accessible Playground

The Shire of Harvey seeks $670k in financial assistance for the design and construction of an inclusive and accessible playground in Harvey where children of all abilities can play together.
