Shire of Harvey leadership recognised retiring Councillors Paul Gillett, Paul Beech and Amanda Lovitt at a special ceremony at Chalbury Park on Thursday, 23 November.
Retiring Councillors Tania Jackson and Francis Burgoyne were unable to be in attendance, but they were also thanked for their invaluable contributions to the Shire of Harvey.
These five Councillors have left an indelible mark on our community and we wish them a well-deserved, peaceful retirement.
Paul Gillett
Mr Gillett was first elected to Council in 2017. In 2019, he became Shire President. In the years since, he
has led Council in advancing plans related to youth, arts and culture, safety and crime prevention, access and inclusion and early years’ development. We will miss his exemplary leadership and lively personality.
Paul Beech
Mr Beech has has shown firm dedication to the Shire of Harvey since he was first elected in 2011. Prior to serving on Council, Mr Beech worked for the Shire of Harvey for more than 24 years. His experience and wisdom has made him a valuable asset to both Council and the wider community.
Francis Burgoyne
Mr Burgoyne has supported local fire and rescue crews for almost four decades. Through his work and passion for the Shire of Harvey, he has paved a legacy that is sure to inspire existing and future volunteers. Mr Burgoyne was first elected to Council in 2015 and has been a strong advocate for local community groups.
Amanda Lovitt
Ms Lovitt was first elected to Council in 2011. For the last 12 years she has marched the Shire of Harvey towards a strong future in tourism, heritage, conservation and commerce. Her enthusiasm and support was instrumental in the establishment of the Destination Harvey Region Business Unit and a renewed apetite for drawing visitors to our Region and businesses.
Tania Jackson
Ms Jackson has made a lasting contribution to the Shire of Harvey during more than 26 years of service on Council. Her work has been extensive, with particular focus on advancing the Shire in areas spanning planning, tourism, recreation, environment and emergency management. This has led to Ms Jackson representing and promoting the Shire of Harvey on and through many significant bodies and committees, while forming critical strategic partnerships with organisations that can help grow the Shire of Harvey. First elected in 1997, her service has truly transformed the community and laid the foundation for the Shire’s next chapter. Ms Jackson will be sorely missed.
The Shire of Harvey expresses gratitude to staff that helped organise this ceremony, Director Sustainable Development Simon Hall for his MC work, and members of Council, Executive Leadership, Senior Leadership and partners that attended.
We would also like to thank Chalbury Park for hosting the event.
