The new Harvey Skatepark is one step closer to becoming a reality for the community after specialist design consultant, Playce was appointed this week.
Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said the skatepark would be located at Meriden Park, Harvey and would cater to a high capacity of users, with multiple zones that would allow for skill progression from a beginner to advanced level.
Cr Gillett said Playce had a proven track record in successfully delivering nationally award-winning skate projects in Western Australia and the development of this site would have the capacity to host small events, and competitions.
The community will be invited to have input into a concept design brief that will be presented to Council in the coming months.
“This is a really exciting time for the community, and we are looking forward to developing a skatepark for the families in Harvey now and into the future,” Cr Gillett said.
“This has been a long time coming and something which has already gained a lot of interest with the community.
“Everyone will be able to have their say via online and face-to-face workshops, so we look forward to hearing what our community would like to see in the new Harvey skatepark.”
The concept plan will be finalised by the end of October 2022, with the construction of the new skatepark to start in 2023.
The project is fully funded with an $880,000 contribution from the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
